The Taoist Federation Youth Group (Singapore) proudly hosted our very first Interfaith Youth Dialogue on the theme “7th Lunar Month: Beliefs, Respect & Coexistence.”
The dialogue aimed to promote mutual understanding and appreciation among youths of different faiths, while exploring the deeper meaning behind the 7th Lunar Month — also known as the Zhong Yuan Festival (中元节) in Taoism.
In his welcome address, our President, Mr Derek Tan shared that beyond its traditional rituals, the festival carries profound values of filial piety, gratitude, remembrance, and respect — virtues that transcend religious boundaries and inspire harmony within our diverse community.
We were deeply honoured to have three distinguished speakers who enriched the session with their unique perspectives:
Venerable Seck Kwang Phing, BBM – President, Singapore Buddhist Federation
Mr Shukul Raaj Kumar – Chief Coordinator, Inter-Religious Organisation, Singapore Youth Wing
Master Adrian Long – Honorary President, Taoist Federation Youth Group (Singapore)
The dialogue highlighted the important role of youths in preserving cultural traditions while building bridges of mutual respect and understanding among different communities.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all who joined us for this meaningful exchange. May this be the beginning of many more interfaith conversations that continue to strengthen our bonds and foster harmony in Singapore.
